On our nametags we all have the title Elder or Sister. The title is given while we our on missions because of our sacred calling to be ambassadors of Christ.

I think the degree of difficulty varies for every missionary and varies as time goes by. For me there were certain times that were harder that others but in general I was so busy that family and home are not big concerns.

a mission for the church the missionary continues being a member
of the church but does not receive any special position within
it.

of their expenses. There are many cases where it is not possible
for a missionary to pay for the entire two years, so family,
friends, and the congregation from the missionary’s hometown
will help.

There are older adults who serve missions and the only limit on their ability to serve is their health.

I served in the Spain Madrid Mission! For those who don’t know, an LDS mission usually entailes serving for a period of 1 1/2 to 2 years as a minister and witness for Christ in a place decided by revelation.

21 April 1999 Dear Elder Alatorre:

You are hereby called to serve as a missionary of The
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. You are assigned
to labor in the Spain Madrid Mission. It is anticipated that
you will serve for a period of 24 months.

You should report to the Missionary Training Center in
Provo, Utah on Wednesday, 28 July 1999. You will prepare to
preach the gospel in the Spanish language.

You have been recommended as one worthy to represent the Lord
as a minister of the restored gospel. You will be an official
representative of the Church. As such, you will be expected
to
maintain highest standards of conduct and appearance by keeping
the commandments, living mission rules, and following the
counsel of your mission president.

You will also be expected to devote all your time and attention
to serving the Lord, leaving behind all other personal affairs.
As you do these things, the Lord will bless you and you will
become an effective advocate and messenger of the truth. We
place in you our confidence and pray that the Lord will help
you meet your responsibilities.

The Lord will reward the goodness of your life. Greater
blessings and more happiness than you have yet experienced
await you as your humbly and prayerfully serve the Lord in
this labor of love among His children.

We ask that you please send your written acceptance promptly,
endorsed by your bishop.
