I’m only human!

I’ve been scrolling through my web stats for March and I was surprised to find that 2 people came to my site by doing a search for Gordon B. Hinckley’s birth day. For those of you who haven’t found that information on my site yet it’s located on my page dedicated to the current apostles of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

One neat feature of this page is that it always shows the current age of the Apostles and updates automatically when they have a birthday! I was showing the page to Crystal and she noticed that Elder Wirthlin was only 33 years old! I’m sure he would like to be that young again, but alas, I entered his birthday as 1971 when it should have been 1917.

Sorry all, I’m only human!

slø bløg defined

I ran across an interesting site today which defined “sloblog” as a blog that did not update very often. Although I named this blog for San Luis Obispo county where I reside and for the city of San Luis Obispo where I lived and currently attend school, I think it very fitting that the word has this alternate definition as it describes my site perfectly!

Changes

Ahh, changes…. Well, Tim Alatorre Online has a new look! Up until now the web site has just been a conglomerate of a lot of different experiments and had little cohesion.

With the new design I hope to make the entire site feel like one! Ahh…. so nice. Everything should be up in running soon, in the meantime bear with the changes. Content is being sacrificed as I work on the graphical side of things. A new feature I’m excited about is an integrated search function on the title bar!

As a bit of trivia: I took the picture of the palm trees on the banner from the roof of the Bren School at the UCSB campus!

Thanks for visiting!

UPDATE 06/10/09: Here is how the site looked after the redesign mentioned above. The site featured drop menus and many, many hover effects.

Learn From My Mistakes

Well, Tim Alatorre Online has been temporarily relocated to talatorre.org. Now, I know that when talatorre.com was launched that I said Tim Alatorre Online would never move again but due to my own ignorance the web page has moved once again.

It seems that when I registered the domain “talatorre.com” I had my hosting company do it for me. I was assured that I would retain the rights to the domain. I, however, never obtained the login information for the registrar where the domain was registered (namecheap.com). Two weeks ago my host (novicehost.com) went offline. A few days later they came back online. They are now offline once again. I have been trying this entire time to contact them to obtain the login for the registrar so that I can change the DNS servers for the domain.

So, the result is that “talatorre.com” is still pointing to “novicehost.com”, which doesn’t exist. I therefore have registered “talatorre.org” and it is configured to point to my new host (amhosting.com). Until I can gain control of “talatorre.com” again you can access my web page at talatorre.org.

The moral of the story: Spend the extra 5 minutes to register your own domain.

UPDATE July 9th, 2009: I finally reaquired “talatorre.com” in November of 2006, I had to wait two years for the domain to expire so that I could reregister it.

Back Online Again

I’m sure some people are wondering what happened to TAlatorre online at the beginning of September. I’ll explain. For the last several months my site has been hosted for free by Anyxhost.com. That’s why my site had the address talatorre.anyxhost.com. Well, the last week of August my site went offline and anyxhost disappeared without a trace. I haven’t been able to find out any information about where they went. Fortunately I was being hosted for free so I didn’t loose much except for some data and time. However, many people had paid service with anyxhost and lost money as well.

I am now being hosted by Novice Host and I have paid to have my own domain, i.e. talatorre.com. Having my own domain name means that even if Novice Host goes belly up and can just move my site to any other host and will still have the address of talatorre.com. So from now on until the end of my life, you will find the latest of what’s going on in my life right here at TAlatorre Online!

UPDATE July 9th, 2009: Novice Host went out of business only 3 months later and I lost money as well as my new domain name.

Welcome to slø bløg

Well, welcome! This is my first post to the internet on my very first blog. I’ve decided to start this to add my opinions and views on the world to the growing wealth of knowledge and information on the internet. I’m not sure what I have to offer but we’ll see where this takes us. Talatorre Online has already become a multifacited website with personal and business information. With the addition of this blog I hope to round out the contents of this site and make it a more fluid, dynamic, and useful site. Feel free to contact me.
